Rides for Families
Sisters Unchained offers free transportation for children and young people who wish to visit their incarcerated parent. We coordinate free rides to any prison or jail in Massachusetts.
Please note:
We do not have the capacity to provide free rides for adults. However, we absolutely will offer rides for adults who need to accompany a child or young person during the visit.
We hope to break the isolation and provide support in navigating the traumatizing environment that exists in prisons and jails. We intend to offer healing and emotional support after children and young people visit their incarcerated families.
Why?
Women bear the brunt of the costs—both financial and emotional—of their loved ones’ incarceration. Mothers, grandmothers, and sisters are often the primary caretakers of children whose parents are imprisoned.
Sisters Unchained believes that supporting family connections with incarcerated parents is vital for children's wellbeing and healthy development. However, the cost of travel can prohibit most families.
